ATRUA CAPTURES FINGERPRINT PHONE MOMENTUM

Announcements of Fingerprint Phones Accelerate as Mobile Phone Makers Adopt Atrua’s Made-for-Mobile Fingerprint Touch Control Solution

Campbell, CA, June 26, 2007 – 2007 has seen a significant increase in the pace of announcements of new mobile phone models that incorporate fingerprint recognition capability, with over 80% of these new phones utilizing Atrua’s made-for-mobile fingerprint solution. Already, in the first half of 2007, twelve new fingerprint phone models have been revealed – ten of which use Atrua’s fingerprint touch control.

Cell phone makers are incorporating Atrua’s fingerprint capability to bring improved usability, privacy, and security features to smart phones and feature phones. Atrua’s latest fingerprint solution, the ATW310, is ideally suited for the unique requirements of mobile phones. It consumes 16 to 33 times less battery power and is over 40% smaller than the latest products from Authentec, UPEK, and other fingerprint sensor vendors. Mobile network operators are also backing Atrua’s solution, because of its open-standards based approach that integrates well with the phone’s security architecture.

In recent years, a small number of new mobile handset models with fingerprint capability have been introduced and some existing fingerprint phone models have been refreshed. However, the 12 new phone models unveiled to date in 2007– coming from companies such as Toshiba, CECT, Kyocera, and Sagem/Porsche Design– represent a significant increase in new fingerprint phone announcements when compared to the two new models introduced for all of 2006.

Demand for fingerprint phones is being driven by users’ growing familiarity with the benefits of fingerprint technology found now on many PCs combined with users’ need to protect valuable and private information often stored on smart phones. In addition, new mobile commerce and banking applications coming to market are driving demand for more secure and convenient authentication solutions. Fueled by this increased demand, the market for fingerprint phones is now taking off.

NEC SX-8R high performance vector computer

The NEC SX-8R vector computer in Bremerhaven consists of twelve SX-8R nodes, each of which has eight CPUs. The SX-8R has a 2.2 GHz processor that can perform more than 35 billion computing operations per second. At 70.4 gigabytes per second, it can also attain higher data transmission speeds between CPU and memory than all standard processors that are currently on the market. The new NEC SX-8R supercomputer with 12 nodes delivers a total of over 3.3 teraflops of computing power. It has 1.5 terabytes of main memory, and the aggregate data transfer rate between the CPUs and memory is 6.7 terabytes per second. The combination of high computing power and memory capacity vastly improves the efficiency of simulations of physical phenomena. NEC’s vector computers are the basis for many supercomputers around the world. One famous example is the Earth Simulator in Yokohama, Japan, which has headed the ranking list of the 500 fastest supercomputers in the world for the last two years.

    Super-slim Seesaw Mobile Phone concept

    seesaw-mobile-phone-2-716-90.jpg

The concept Seesaw Mobile Phone , designed by Karsten Willmann , has a slightly bulging hinge that appears to be at odds with its slimline design. But the cunningly clever bit is that the hinge, containing the phone’s camera and flashlight, also acts to angle the display up towards you when lying on a desk. That means you can read the OLED screen while its resting.

Trojan horse allows attacker connect to Internet through your computer

A malware named Trojan-Proxy.Win32.Agent.y is on the prowl and like other members of its family, this one too facilitates a remote attacker to access the Internet via a compromised computer, say security experts at MicroWorld Technologies.

Win32.Agent.y comes to your computer when you download many dubious, free applications from the Internet. Drive-by-Download is another mode of propagation for the Trojan as malicious websites force it into computers by exploiting browser vulnerabilities, where all you need to do is to view those websites to get infected.
