Sweden-based Neonode announced on Tuesday it will add four vibrant new colors to its N2 cellular phone. Originally offered only in black, Neonode’s web store now offers the quad-band GSM phone in Lime (green), Azure (blue), Rubine (red) and Roza (pink). The phone features an optical 2-inch touchscreen with a programmed Neno user interface that uses various finger sweeps across the screen as shortcuts. It is not yet available in the US, but Neonode mentions the new colors are meant to help the company bring the phone to new markets as it attempts to boost sales.
The N2 was launched last August and has sold 31,000 units in the fourth quarter of last year, prompting Neonode to move up the launch of the new colors.
The phone is Bluetooth enabled and holds audio files in MP3, WMA and WAV formats on a miniSD card. The phone’s built-in 2-megapixel camera can capture still images or videos in MPEG and WMV formats.
To date, the N2 has been sold in Europe, but it has been rumored that Neonode will announce the N2 for US consumption and launch it Stateside sometime in 2008.

If you’re vaguely remembering a mention of MLD, you’re not crazy. Around this time last year, PureDepth announced that it was teaming up with Samsung to crank out a 46-inch Multi-Layer Display LCD. Fast forward to now, and we’re hearing that the first MLD wares should be hitting the streets relatively soon. The technology itself consists of building displays that are in fact two or more layers of LCD panel that share a common back-light source, thus creating a depth effect when viewing material. As it stands, the outfit has signed agreements with Samsung (obviously) for development of displays in mobile handsets and Sanyo for mobiles, gaming solutions and automotive electronics (including in-car navigation). Interestingly enough, Q1 2008 saw quite the surge in support for the 3D sector, making the launch of MLD that much more applicable to the apparent desires of content viewers.

BMW’s supercar icon, the M1, blew out the candles at the Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este this weekend. In honor of the car’s thirtieth birthday, BMW rolled out the new BMW M1 Hommage, a concept/design study that pays tribute to the original M1 and shows what could be possible if BMW were to produce a new mid-engined sports car.
The BMW M1 Hommage blends a wide, aggressive stance with intentionally retro/modern twists on the key visual elements that defined Paul Bracq’s original BMW Turbo concept and the Giugiaro-designed M1 homologation special that followed. It is instantly recognizable as an M1, particularly in profile, where the M1 Hommage’s basic shape clearly mimics that of its forebear. BMW’s stylists also incorporated similar nods the particulars of the original, such as the louvered rear window; the badge placement in back; the line extending aft from the side glass; and even the wheel design, which is an exaggerated take on the ones you’ll find on the original road car. Poring over the details of the Homage is akin to going on an Easter Egg hunt.
