With the 42-inch TH42PZ700U plasma HDTV, Panasonic has achieved picture quality that takes your breath away. This full HD 1080p native resolution set displays a maximum of 29 billion colors (that’s right–29,000,000,000) and 4,096 shades of gradation. A high contrast ratio of up to 5,000-to-1 assures exceptionally rich blacks and brilliant whites. The result is one of the most detailed plasma TV’s ever. Three built-in tuners receive standard (NTSC) broadcast or cable signals, HDTV (ATSC) broadcast signals, and unencrypted digital cable (QAM) signals, which means no set-top box for basic digital cable service. There are two HDMI inputs for all-digital transfer of high definition video and multichannel audio signals via a single cable. Now you can enjoy HD entertainment without that cable jumble.

The TH-42PZ700U’s built-in analog/digital tuner can pull in every type of over-the-air TV broadcast, including gorgeous, free HDTV (antenna required). Plus, the set’s “QAM” cable tuner conveniently allows cable TV subscribers to watch most unscrambled channels without the need for a set-top box — including HD channels in many areas.

Basic, glossy black defines the style of the Panasonic TH-42PX700U and its larger cousins in the of 1080p plasmas. The 42-inch screen is surrounded by a rather thick black frame, with the top edge angled back slightly from the main front plane. Its sides are augmented by a pair of inch-wide speakers with tiny perforations for better blend-in, and its bottom edge is raked back to match the top. A central flip-up door hides inputs and controls, while a smaller door to the right conceals the memory card slot. Panasonic includes a matching pedestal stand.
