Microsoft is again raising the bar of video communication by bringing back videomail (aka. vmail) to life. MS’ Video Messages (still in beta) lets you send short videos (e.g. a quick “hello” or a personalized “happy birthday” message) using LifeCam video widget to anyone with an email (and a Windows Live! ID). The recipient then will notice a new thumbnail which indicates an incoming video clip. He can then reply or forward it to other anyone else. Good thing there’s a private option that locks your video so the other guy cannot download or distribute it further.
What are the benefits if you ask? Video clips are streamed to your PC from remote on Live! server, so no space clutter for your inbox. Video demo shows the ease of use and practicality of the application even though it’s intended for Vista only. We hope Redmond has considered implementing some strict parental control for the widget as Video Messages can easily be a pervert’s dream of harassing kids or anyone for that matter.
