Lenovo’s giving some of its ThinkPad flagships a nice little spec overhaul, specifically the X200 series of ultraportables and the spectrum-leaping W700 hardlyportable dual screen laptop. The new X201 and X201s start things off with a new option for touchpads on the 12.1-inch form factor, options for Core i7 and Core i5 processors, and sub-three pound weigh-ins on at least the 4-cell configuration. The X201s is slightly lighter and slightly thinner, and is limited to Core i7 procs, though neither version gets much under an inch thick. The X201t (pictured) is the well-leaked tablet version, adding on a bit more thickness in exchange for a highly configurable screen, which includes options for outdoor viewing, capacitive touch and of course pen input. All three laptops rely on Intel HD graphics and are rather extensively configurable, with batteries ranging up into the 12 hour ballpark with the 9 cell battery option on the X201 and X201s. Unfortunately you’ll still have to look to Lenovo’s consumer line for HDMI output — none of these machines are packing anything other than VGA.

Meanwhile, on the other end of town, the 17-inch, Wacom-equipped W701 and W701ds (dual screen) are making the leap to Core i7 as well, though the Core i7-920 Extreme and Core i7-820 QM Quad Core on display here is fairly desktop class. There’s also NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800M / 2800M graphics, and an option for a dual SSD drive configuration to really break the bank.

All of these laptops should be available in the beginning of March, with starting prices of $1,199 (X201), $1,599 (X201s), $1,549 (X201t), $2,199 (W701), and $3,799 (W701ds). Can’t wait to find out more? We’ve got a review of the X201t all warm and ready for you.

Lenovo ThinkPad bumps bring X201, X201s, X201t, W701, and W701ds into the Core i7 fold originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 23 Feb 2010 00:01:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

This is the third photo in as many days that we’ve seen of Best Buy’s system showing supposed new Apple products, with this latest one claiming a launch date of the 19th of February. That’s tomorrow, friends.

Our latest Best Buy tipster couldn’t confirm exactly what the dummy SKUs showing up on the system are, but it’s most likely the new wave of (fault-free) 27-inch iMacs. After all, tomorrow’s a Friday, and Apple usually launches brand new products on Tuesdays.

The $1,999.99 price glimpsed on the photo of the system is yet another clue that it’s just 27-inch Core i5 2.66GHz iMacs—either that, or a new 15-inch MacBook Pro, which wouldn’t entirely surprise us either. [Thanks to our anonymous tipster!]

What do you do if you really want a Windows Phone 7 handset but prefer PlayStation to Xbox 360? Microsoft may end up catering for you too, with a senior product manager on the mobile division musing on the possibility.

Michael Chang told TechRadar that Microsoft’s doesn’t intend to be a closed door to other companies.

“If you look at our history in mobiles, we have never blocked anything off this platform because we compete in the same space, at least not in the phone space.”

Typically, he couldn’t actually pinpoint “a specific scenario” where they’ve allowed competing products onto their phones, but mentioned they allow Exchange “on other devices.” At a hefty license cost, I’m sure.

But going back to allowing users of WP7 to integrate their PlayStation Network stats and games, it’s something they’re considering.

“We think it’s pretty clear – I was slightly worried that when we showed off Xbox Live on the Windows Phone 7 platform people might think it was Microsoft trying to own the [mobile] world.

“But the simplest way to put it is that there’s a very obvious reason we called it the Games hub and the Music + Video hub: Zune and Xbox are key parts, but not the only parts, of the overall Windows Phone experience.”

But will they let me play Donkey Kong Country? [TechRadar]

A Canadian Best Buy spy has sent us an image of some dummy Apple SKUs showing up on their system, and while we can’t confirm it’s legit, it comes rather soon after the last round.

Our tipster says he also saw some “fully-speced high end iMacs in inventory that were not in stores yet.” It’s not really evidence of a new MacBook Pro/iMac refresh, but is certainly fodder to chew on. [Thanks, Spark!]
