Call it an inexplicable fascination, or call it all-out geek lust over a screen with three digits in the “diagonal screen size” specification field — either way, we had little choice but to shuttle over to HDI ’s nondescript Los Gatos, California headquarters in order to check out what even Steve Wozniak has been quoted as saying is the best 3D solution out there. While stationed on the west coast this week for GDC , we grabbed a camera and bolted down the 280 in order to get a sneak peek at the aforesaid firm, a tight-knit startup that currently has prototype displays in production and plans for far more. We’ve heard plenty through the grapevine, but we set out to get our questions answered directly, and possibly even provide some insight that has yet to be made available to the public thus far

We and several hundred other press members got into a scrum at Mobile World Congress as Windows Phone 7 Series got demonstrated. It was a little full-on, so it’s great to see a nice up-close video instead. Fellow Microsoft MVP Chris Pirillo has added a great video overview of the new OS here on YouTube

Offshore wind farms, and for those who don’t know have nothing to do with keeping gas behind a fence at sea, is one of the better ways to utilize one of ole Mom Natures greatest gifts, the wind. Norway has undertaken plans to build a turbine that will be 533 feet tall and a rotor diameter of 475 feet which will make it the world’s largest turbine ever. Since it’s so super large this ‘blow hard’ will be able to generate about 10-megawatts to power over 2,000 homes

I may be a Porsche fan but that doesn’t mean that the Prancing Horse doesn’t do it fro me either. Designer Arthur Q. Reyes, Jr., being the genius he is, has designed something for Ferrari Formula One fans to very comfortable watch the races or anything else for that matter.

The rest is here:

Oh you’re tired of tablets, are you? Pray tell, how many multitouch 21.3-inch tablets have you seen so far then? A prototype of Wacom’s update to the ultra-high end 21UX has been shown off at a recent CAD presentation, so we figured we might as well take a look at the thing — given its predecessor’s $2,999 starting price, we’re unlikely to be buying one any time soon. So dive past the break for a glimpse — just a glimpse — of the new multitouch goodness taking place. After you’re done with that, you can check out the source link for more pictures of what’s sure to be the new state of the art in graphics tablets.

So um, remember this crazy 14-inch transparent OLED display Samsung was showing off perched atop a laptop at CES? Yea, that might be in the shops within the next 12 months. If that doesn’t get you tingling with excitement, we don’t know what will. Samsung will start its big push toward translucency with the IceTouch PMP, which we found to have a gorgeous 2-inch display in our earlier hands-on, but it’s already working away in the labs on turning the prototype above into a concrete retail product. The IceTouch is slated to make its US arrival early in the first half of this year, priced at around $332. European availability is as yet uncomfirmed, but the Korean’s company is being very ambitious about its technology, suggesting that windscreen-mounted SatNav units could be next on the agenda and ruling nothing out as it strives to bring its transparent AMOLED displays into the mainstream.

Samsung’s transparent OLED laptop could hit retail, IceTouch PMP will get the ball rolling originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 05 Feb 2010 02:01:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Ever wonder what the offspring of an after-party Twitter and Digg copulation might look like? No, well aren’t you pure and normal. Regardless, we fantasize about it all the time but never expected this iPhone payment dongle to be first from the litter. Square is Jack Dorsey’s (Twitter co-founder) new startup that now has Kevin Rose (Digg founder) on board as an investor and YouTube pitch man for the prototype payment device that plugs directly into the iPhone’s headphone jack. We’ve covered Square before but this is the first video that clearly demonstrates the full capability of the credit card swipe system on a live device. A compelling proposition for receiving cashless payments if you’re a small business owner looking to exploit irresponsible credit card debt or just the average Joe hocking goods at a garage sale, farmers market, or Craigslist. Assuming of course, Square’s cut of the transaction isn’t too egregious. Demo after the break.
