Tokyo Midtown Let's Visit Tokyo

Been pretty unlucky lately with the weather, once again we have a rainy weekend here in Tokyo, feel like Seattle ;-) . Anyway since I am not too found of shooting video under the rain, I decided to shoot today’s video indoors, in one of Tokyo’s finest luxury shopping mall, Tokyo Midtown.

A few minutes away from the dirty and absolutely utterly unfriendly Roppongi area, where in my opinion only “Wannabe” love to hang around, there is a quite elegant a nice shopping mall called Tokyo Midtown. I personally do not do my shopping there since there are few shops for men, but my wife and I often go enjoy eating at Midtown. There are indeed quite a few nice restaurant there and we really recommend the Italian Restaurant “Botanica” from the Hiramatsu group that also happen to mange all Paul Bocuse restaurant in Japan. Now if you just fancy more basic food, there is also a very nice burger place too!

Anyway if you have some spare time in Tokyo and just want to have a drink, do some shopping with your loved one and enjoy a cozy atmosphere, Tokyo Midtown is the place to be!

Let80E2A6+Shall+we+take+a+break+until+January%3F
Hi everyone, has you have most probably noticed, we did not post any Let’s Visit Tokyo Video since last week, and to be very honest with you, my parents are here with me until mid of January and I actually try to spend as much time as possible with them since I rarely see them (once every 3 to 4 years)… Also Xmas is almost there and I would much appreciate to take a break too (If you don’t mind of course!!!)

This of course does not mean that I will stop Shooting video for you, don’t worry I will continue in 2010 to shoot every week a new video for you, with a surprise that I will try to shoot next week end in the Japanese country side with the Nikon D3s at night…

So if you don’t mind I will give my babies some rest until January and if you are missing our weekly video do not hesitate to enjoy once again one of the 31 videos we took this year…

Let80E293+Teppanyaki+fever
Hi everybody today will be a bit different and also sorry for being late. Now why today is going to be slightly different from the usual “Let’s Visit Tokyo” series? Well, in fact today we will not visit any part of Tokyo per se, but we will rather enjoy a Japanese “Chef” cooking some Teppanyaki and Garlic rice for us (my Daughter, Wife and myself)… Now why on heart didn’t I shoot video of Tokyo’s streets? Well in fact yesterday it was raining like hell and I wanted to shoot a video and this morning, while the weather was excellent with a cloudless sky, I had to assist to my daughter’s performance at her school Christmas concert…

So instead just forgetting the entire “let’s Visit Tokyo” concept, I decided to shoot a Teppanyaki chef cooking for us and a bunch of other people next to us…

Enjoy !

PS… It was delicious!

Let80%99s+Visit+Tokyo+-+Togoshi+Ginza
Hi everybody and sorry for last week… Being sick (slept almost all week-end) I could not shoot a Let’s Visit Tokyo Video for you… Anyway, today I wanted to do something a bit different, from the usual visit of Tokyo’s famous point of interest and wanted to give you a glimpse of Japanese everyday life by Visiting Togoshi Ginza.

Being the complete opposite of Ginza, Togoshi Ginza is a “popular” area with “old school” shop and stores. Do not get me wrong, Popular is here not a bad thing in my mind, and walking down this street is jumping in any Japanese everyday life with a small touch of the past… Togoshi Ginza is a relaxing place I like to visit time to time…

Canon+EOS+7D80%A6+So+Far+Not+What+I+Expected...

First Impression, this article is not our final on the Canon OES 7D.

I just received the Canon EOS 7D with a 15-85mm lens yesterday … While photos so far are quite good, very good if you don’t go over ISO 1000, I’m disappointed with the Video Mode… Especially with the poor performance in 720/60p full of moiré (alising). Once switched to 1080/30p or 24p things get better but not much… Something pretty basic that the GH1 handled AMAZINGLY well…

We knew already that both the 7D and 5D MK II were pretty sensitive to the Jello effect, like the GF1 (the GH1 has no Jello effect at all), and we now have to add moiré to the list of bugs, sorry features, that Canon must address ASAP!
This said, it looks like a 7D Firmware update will come this month. Not sure about this but it’s a rumor spreading on the web and the firmware will address some issues while recording in 720p… SO wait and see but as for today (10/15/09) with 1.0.8 Firmware on the 7D… the EOS 7D is far from a GH1 in terms of video quality in both 1080 and 720p.

I’ll have the camera for a week more and will shoot this week-end’s “Let’s Visit Tokyo” video with it. Maybe I’ll change my opinion……

Let80E2A6+Izu

There’s good news and bad news, let’s start with the bad news… During my week long of holiday I had a SD card problem and lost 16GB of video… I was planning to offer you a 20 to 25 minute long video but, this XXXX SDHC Card lost all my data… However let’s talk about the good news now… Well the good news is that I succeed in shooting 16GB more of video and you have around 12 minutes worth of video. The 2nd part of the good news is that I will cover more about Izu soon…

What’s so special about this place? First I know Izu as well as almost all its little roads and amazing secrets better than Tokyo… My wife and I are lucky enough to own a little place to rest with onsens, tennis and a private pool… (I know, my life sucks)… For the past eight years we roamed almost everywhere in Izu so I have a pretty impeccable knowledge about the place…

Let’s first talk about the video. You can see three different places in Izu (there were supposed to be eight…) The first is a “sleeping” volcano that you can visit and enjoy a stunning surrounding view, the other part is a typical small fishering port in Atami, and the last is an insanely beautiful cliff on the sea made by the old magma of the previous volcano we visited. I recommend anyone visiting this place to try the hiking course, the view is breath taking.

What you won’t see on the video due to my XXX SD card… Are the best three beaches in Shimoda, the ONLY place in all of Izu with clean, white sand… As well as Dogashima, another nice little place where you can find almost no tourists, only locals and despite of JRs huge advertisement campaign.

Finally I recommend EVERYONE to rent a car to tour Izu, the best places are unfortunately always far from a train station… Visiting Izu without a car is a waist of time and money.

I will shoot more of Izu later this August and September, and will write a special report on top of the Let’s Visit Tokyo Series… Please enjoy!

Oh and I almost forgot, the palm trees are the ones in front of our pool

Let80E293+Kokyo+Gaien+Part+I
Hi everyone, here you are the 15 video of our “Let’s Visit Tokyo” tour, and today we will visit a very particular place that I like for its “emptiness”, Kokyo Gaien.

Kokyo Gaien is some kind of “Park” surrounding some part of the Imperial Palace. What it is so amazing to me regarding this place is that it is almost empty, soulless and one step away from huge buildings… Yesterday I was lucky enough to get a windy weather, giving a surrealist view of the place where clouds are moving fast and changing each seconds the light around us…

If you happen to visit the place, just make sure to be in the middle of the park, seat, and just enjoy the silence and emptiness, something really amazing when you happen to know that Tokyo has 17 Million inhabitants…

Now few things, this video is divided in 2 parts, you have below part 1 and I will shoot part 2 later on… Also Next week, I will take some holidays, and I don’t believe I will have enough time to shoot a video for Kei to publish next Sunday… However the good news is that I will shoot video for you during my holidays in Izu, a part of Japan that my Wife and I happen to own a little place to rest the summer (and winter), Izu is beautiful and I will try my best to shoot as much video as possible for a Special “Let’s Visit Tokyo”
